How to market a bin cleaning business

By BinClean MarketingUpdated October 12, 20269 min read

Short answer: Set up your Google Business Profile, build a website with prices and online booking, automate billing and reminders, ask every customer for a review, then add Google Ads tracked to real payments. In that order.

Do it in this order

Most bin cleaning owners start with flyers and Facebook posts, then try ads, then wonder why nothing sticks. The order matters more than the tactics:

  1. Google Business Profile so you show up on the map.
  2. A website that shows prices and books so the people who find you can sign up.
  3. Booking, billing and reminders on autopilot so growth doesn't bury you in texts.
  4. Reviews from every customer so the next person trusts you.
  5. Ads, once the first four are converting.

Steps 1 to 4 take you from zero to a business that books itself. Step 5 is how you scale it. That's how Fresh Bins LA went from $3–6K a month to $10–14K.

1. Get your Google Business Profile right

When someone searches "trash can cleaning near me", Google shows a map with three businesses before any website. That map is where most local customers pick who to call.

  • Set up as a service-area business and hide your home address.
  • Pick the closest primary category Google offers and add your services with prices.
  • Upload real photos: your truck or trailer, your crew, before-and-afters.
  • Add your booking link so people can sign up straight from Google.

2. Build a website that books

Your website has one job: get a stranger to pick a plan and pay. Three things matter most:

  • Prices on the page. Per bin, per plan. "Call for a quote" loses people.
  • A Book button that goes straight to checkout, not a contact form.
  • A page for each city you serve, so you can rank in each one. Fresh Bins LA has 31.

3. Put booking, billing and reminders on autopilot

A wall calendar works at 30 customers. It breaks at 70. Software built for bin cleaning, like Jobatory, handles sign-ups, payment, route building, reminder texts and failed cards. That frees your evenings and stops customers from slipping through the cracks.

Two automations pay for themselves fast:

  • Failed card reminders. Expired and declined cards get chased automatically until they're updated.
  • Win-back texts. Fresh Bins LA texts one-time customers 75 days after their cleaning to invite them back.

4. Get a review from every customer

Reviews decide the map pack and the click. Ask every new customer right after their first cleaning, with a direct link to your Google review page. Put that link on your thank-you page, in your completion text and in your website footer.

Never post fake reviews or pay for them. Google removes them, and customers can tell. We've cleaned fake reviews off client sites. It's one of the first things we fix.

5. Work your route

Your cheapest new customer lives next door to a current one. Route density is the bin cleaning business model: more stops per street means more money per hour of driving.

  • Leave a door hanger on the neighbors' doors on every cleaning day.
  • Give every customer a referral link and a reason to use it.
  • Pitch HOAs, apartment complexes and restaurants with dumpsters for bigger, recurring stops.

6. Turn on ads, and track them to real payments

Once your profile and site convert, Google Ads put you in front of people ready to book today. What made Fresh Bins LA's ads work:

  • The right words. "Trash can" searches converted about 4x better than "bin cleaning". See trash can vs. bin keywords.
  • The right ZIP codes. Three areas produced 27 of the first 29 conversions. The rest got cut.
  • Counting payments, not clicks. Google reported 29 conversions. Stripe showed 21 paying customers. Decisions run off Stripe.

Facebook and Instagram work best for building demand around your existing route, using your own before-and-after photos.

7. Price for profit

Marketing can't fix a price that loses money on every stop. Most small operators undercharge. Check what each stop costs you in time, water, chemicals and fuel, and price above it. When you raise prices, keep current members at their rate and charge the new price to new customers. More in how to price bin cleaning.

Mistakes we see most

  • Running ads to a site with no prices or online booking.
  • One "service areas" page listing 30 towns instead of a page per city.
  • Stock photos, fake reviews and template placeholder text.
  • Judging ads by Google's "conversions" instead of paying customers.
  • Targeting a whole metro area when two or three ZIP clusters do all the converting.

Questions

Common questions

What is the best way to advertise a bin cleaning business?

Start with a complete Google Business Profile and a website that shows prices and books online. Then add Google Ads aimed at "trash can cleaning" searches in the ZIP codes closest to your route.

How do bin cleaning companies get customers?

Mostly from Google (the map and search results), referrals from neighbors, door hangers on route days, and ads. The ones that grow fastest make it easy to sign up and pay online.

How much should a new bin cleaning business spend on marketing?

Get the free and cheap pieces done first: Google profile, reviews, a website that books. Then start ads small and only raise the budget once you know what a paying customer costs.
